But an element, formally, is the start and end tags and all its
contents. It is not just the start and end tag. John has a point. Even
if you take a node view rather than a linear view, saying "remove a
node" does not tell you what to do with its sub-nodes.
We don't have adequate terminology for things like remove an element but
not its children. It may be a good side-effect of NVDL that we get some
useful terms like "unwrap" and "attach".
