Lists of pairs can already be validated with Relax NG! It's then "only" a
matter of defining the individual types used by these lists of pairs.

I am still thinking that the framework can help here (by defining
transformations to be performed between the parsed and the lexical spaces)
and would really like to get feedback on my strawman!
In the meantime, I will also update it to show how the different use cases
listed by Rick could be implemented using my proposal.
