[dsdl-discuss] Is SGML in scope for DSDL?

From: G. Ken Holman <gkholman@CraneSoftwrights.com>

I'm working on the scope section of Part 0 for DSDL ... setting out
(according to the directives) "the limits of applicability of the document
or particular parts of it. It shall not contain requirements".

So, accordingly, based on our discussions in Barcelona where we decided any
and all expressions of information in intermediate and final results shall
be expressible in XML (i.e. we aren't going to invent any new information
items that aren't XML information set items), I'm limiting all of my
discussion to XML documents.

I think this means that SGML is out of scope, other than to say we are
limiting ourselves to that application profile of SGML that is XML.

Comments?

Many thanks to Martin for supplying a good chuck of fodder for Part 0 ...
I'm now adding his words to mine and then my latest words to the
amalgam. I will post something early in my afternoon.

Thanks!

p.s. does anyone have the production environment from James that supports
his "is.rnc" document model? I would rather not write a brand new XSL-FO
stylesheet for ISO standards if one already exists. I've tried a number of
times to write James to ask him for what he used to create Part 2, but he
is understandably occupied with many other things and hasn't responded.
