[dsdl-discuss] Opening our resources

Hi,

I hope everyone had a good journey back from Baltimore and have been
really happy meeting you there!

Before I proceed on opening our resources, I'd like to do a last sanity
check to make sure we are all in line with needs to be done.

1) Read access to our web site

Right now, the following resources are password protected:

http://dsdl.org/private/
http://lists.dsdl.org/dsdl-discuss/
http://wiki.dsdl.org/

And per what has been decided, we would give read access to anyone to
these resources.

2) Discussion lists

No modification would be done to our discussion lists: dsdl-comment is
for public comments and dsdl-discuss for the use of our working group
and invited experts. The modification is through the web site: the
archives of dsdl-discuss being now open.

3) Write access

Write access to the wiki is reserved for the members of our working
group. I'd like to take this opportunity to upgrade the wiki to a more
recent version (with more features and without loss of what we've
entered up to now) and to propose to add individual logins for write
access to the wiki: this would help tracking the history of the wiki.

Also, up to now, we've used a cvs server to update the content of our
main web site. While this is great to track changes on documents, this
is not very user friendly and not very wall adapted to facilitate
posting documents on the site.

As we move forward, we have several possibilities:

1) Continue with the CVS server and give write access to all the members
of the working group.
2) Leave the CVS server alone and use a web based software to let the
members of the working group upload their documents.
3) Do both.

What do you think?

Eric
