I have implemented a datatype library for the Japanese calendar in Java.
This can be used from Jing and MSV. It is available at the following URI
but everything is written in Japanese.

I find Tex Texin provides a nice introduction to the Japanese calendar.

If DSDL is going to provide a generic mechanism for impelementing datatypes,
that mechanism should allow datatypes for the Japanese calendar. If not,
that mechanism is hardly attractive.

Cheers,
