The problem is that we don't want to tie ourselves down forever by
specifically stating support for something that is static. Stating that we
only support XML 1.0 and XSLT 1.0 makes it impossible for us to move
forward. Until we are able of offer a full level of functionality we need to
remain flexible. Personally I think that there are functions in XPath 2.0
that are vital for validation. I am loath to throw the baby out with the
bathwater just because the water is a bit murky.
