You used references to external parsed entities within attribute values.
But XML 1.0 does not allow such references. I got the following error.

java sax.Counter kanji1.xml
[Fatal Error] kanji1.xml:5:20: The external entity reference "&k1;"
is not permitted in an attribute value.
