I agree that the deal was done between OASIS and JTC1. I also
agree that the explanatory text you quoted is authoritative.
I have read it several times before I started this discussion.

However, my interpretation of the wording of the explanatory text
is different from yours. My intepretation was joint maintenance.

>OASIS and its OpenDocument Technical Committee plans to conduct the
>ongoing maintenance of the submitted specification, including the collection and
>promulgation of errata, implementation experience and possible feedback
>towards future improvements.

In my interpretation of the above sentence, OASIS will maintain
the submitted specification, but JTC1 is not prohibited to
publish technical corrigeda or extensions.

>OASIS requests that any corrections of defects or errata
>from the JTC1 process be re-presented to the OASIS Technical Committee, for
>handling and correction, which the Technical Committee will be pleased to
>publish in a manner coordinated with JTC1.

In my intepretation, OASIS welcomes defects and draft technical
corrigenda from SC34 so that OASIS can publish errata in sync
with technical corrigenda. Is my interpretation incorrect?
Then, what does "corrections of defects or errata from the JTC1 process"
mean?

> OASIS requests that any change or improvement proposals from
>the JTC1 process be re-presented to the OASIS
>Technical Committee, for inclusion in a future major revision.

In my interpretation, proposals can be discussed at SC34, and they
will be represented to OASIS at the same time. Again, I think
that ammendments from JTC1 and extensions from OASIS will be
in sync.

>The OASIS
>OpenDocument Technical Committee proposes to remain active and drive growth of
>the specification, and to bring any future major versions back to
>JTC1 for retransposition
>at an appropriate stage of stability.

Again, I think that this sentence does not prohibit SC34 from creating
extensions or technical corrigenda.
