Martin, all,

I don't believe is was ever JTC 1's intention to halt the process at this point unless the vote was much more overwhelmingly negative (though one - of the many - readings of the Directive could support that view).

ISO's own press release says on the ballot result:

"Comments that accompanied the votes will be discussed at a ballot resolution meeting (BRM) to be organized by the relevant subcommittee of ISO/IEC JTC 1 (SC 34, Document description and processing languages) in February 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland."

http://www.iso.org/iso/pressrelease.htm?refid=Ref1070

Though I thought the call on this was meant to be up to our SC34 secretariat.

I bet it kind of makes you wish you weren't retiring .... ;-)

- Alex.

Subject: [dsdl-discuss] OOXML ballot

Somewhat surprisingly the OOXML ballot failed:

P-Members voting: 17 in favour out of 32 = 53.12% (requirement >= 66.66%)

Disapproved

Seems you won't be invited to Geneva in February - better plan next year's
skiing holiday somewhere else!

Martin
